Every experienced potter knows the frustration of a bad wheel, especially when you are paying the studio your hard-earned cash to use their space! Bad potter's wheels are a sweeping epidemic around the globe and it has to stop. I put together a list of the top 3 best wheels that studios can most definitely afford with the amount of cash that you pay them to work there.
1. Brent Model 16 Pottery Wheel with Plastic-Bat and Splash Pan ($1,475)
The best part about this wheel is that the pedal can be converted to being hand-operated. Great quality and awesome for those who may be handicapped.
2. The AMACO Brent EJ Kick/Electric potter's wheel ($2,399.00)
This wheel is great because you can switch between manually kicking the wheel (like they used to have to do back in the olden days, ya know?) and electric. Manual kicking gives the user more control and is safer than electric for things like painting symmetrical patterns like circles on a pot.
3. Shimpo VL Whisper Potter's Wheel ($1,139.00)
My personal favorite is the Shimpo wheel due to the seriously amazing control you have with the foot pedal. It is truly unrivaled, stops on a dime which is great, and is the cheapest of all.
So yeah, take note ceramics teachers. The people have spoken. No more shitty wheels please. That is all.
